Etymology:

The name honors Dr. Ken Oyama, a pioneer in genetic and evolutionary studies of the genus Quercus in Mexico.

Natural Distribution:

Endemic to Mexico. In the Mexican Plateau, particularly on the internal slopes of the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Sierra Madre Occidental in the states of Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.
